Say What, Performing Arts?

by Santiago

Students of COP Institute of Performing Arts program instantly became the topic of many discussions, on and off campus, after their stellar performance in the live musical, A Salute to Broadway, Legends and More. The students dazzled the audience with their creativity as they took them on a musical journey while singing and dancing to legendary hits from The Temptations, The Jackson 5, Destiny’s Child, Bruno Mars, and even the breakout song from the musical Grease, We Go Together. By the standing ovation the performers received, there is no doubt that the performing arts students owned the stage and showed us why their talent should not be slept on.

The anticipation of the live musical not only brought out family and friends, but school Board members from near and far, and even Inglewood City officials who all came to witness the creativity and talent of our students. Mayor Butts and Councilman Dotson took time out of their demanding schedules to learn more about COP, the thriving programs offered, and spend some one-on-one with the students prior to the show. They were both amazed and impressed with the level of talent our students possess, as well as the array of programs and COP’s level of dedication to ensuring the entire child is developed both academically and socially.

The performing arts students raised the bar with their live musical performance. Their dedication to the art and their innate talent shined through on stage from the first act to curtain call. So, imagine, if A Salute to Broadway, Legends and More set the bar, there is no telling what the students have in store for us with their upcoming musical at the end of the school year. While the suspension hinders us for now, we are all still savoring our most enjoyable moments from that unforgettable evening.
